TOKYO (AP) — Asian shares mostly sank Tuesday over worries about a possible U.S. government shutdown and the troubled Chinese economy.Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.6% in morning trading to 32,469.85. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 dipped 0.5% to 7,042.50. South Korea’s Kospi dropped nearly 1.0% to 2,471.30. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng shed 0.9% to 17,578.90, while the Shanghai Composite fell 0.2% to 3,110.86. Investors are watching for Chinese economic indicators being released later in the week. “The Chinese property woes are far from over, as the notorious developer Evergrande defaulted on its 4 billion yuan onshore bond repayment and delayed the restructuring meetings,” said Tina Teng, market analyst at CMC Markets APAC & Canada. One person is dead and one person is injured after a fire engulfed a home in San Bernardino on Monday morning. At 4:38 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to west Magnolia and North E Street after several callers reported a home with a roof on fire. Crews were also notified of possible victims that were trapped inside. Once on scene, firefighters quickly entered the single-story home to locate the victims and work on taking down the fire. Some personnel were also deployed to the roof to improve conditions inside the home. A fire engulfed a home in San Bernardino (San Bernardino County Fire)Rescue crews located two victims inside the home. After paramedics performed life-saving measures, one victim was transported to a nearby hospital. The second victim was found dead at the scene.The fire was knocked down within twenty minutes of firefighters’ arrival. It is unclear what caused the fire. (BCN) -- An employee of a San Francisco daycare center who pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child pornography has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, the U.S. Department of Justice said Monday. Jace Wong, 26, was taken into custody in April 2021 after an undercover officer allegedly linked him to a video during a chat of a girl between 4 and 6 years old with her pants down and vagina exposed. Officers were able to identify Wong and his location through his cell phone and arrest him. Officers also discovered the black and white tiled bathroom in which the child was standing in the childcare facility. Other videos and images from that bathroom were also discovered, prosecutors said.Wong used the social media app Kik to join an online group called "Younger love [heart emoji] [heart emoji]" that shared the images.
