AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday projected confidence that his push for education savings accounts will pass the Texas legislature, following months of intractable disagreements between the Governor and some reluctant lawmakers in his own party."As we begin this final push, we are on the one-yard line, a good place to be," Abbott said at an event arranged by the conservative think tank Texas Public Policy Foundation. "I am committed. However long it takes, that race is going to continue. The Timberwolves head into their third preseason game, and first on American soil, on Saturday in New York City after a week flush with practices within the friendly confines of their practice facility in downtown Minneapolis. The Knicks are better than the Dallas Mavericks and likely, at this point in training camp, a more locked-in team than the Mavericks were for last week’s two games against the Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi, making this an even better gauge for where the Timberwolves are with less than two weeks until their regular-season opener in Toronto. With that in mind, here’s a look at things to watch for Saturday evening in New York.More of the same?: As unprepared and disorganized as the Maverickss, a team that started a pair of rookies in the frontcourt, looked against the Timberwolves, it’s a good bet the Knicks will be the opposite.Like Minnesota, New York touts a bevy of continuity on its roster. And this is a team that accomplished a lot last spring, winning a pla...Cottage Grove’s Innovation Road/Keats Avenue Bridge repairs mean detours starting Sunday

By ISABEL DEBRE and FATIMA SHBAIR (Associated Press)GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Watching the pulverized alleys of Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza empty of people, Naji Jamal was frozen with indecision.Should he heed the Israeli army’s demand that all Palestinians evacuate and make the risky trip to Gaza’s south, where his only certainty was homelessness? Or should he stay at his multistory building — within what the Israeli army has now designated a target zone — ahead of a likely Israeli ground invasion? “It’s an existential question, but there is no answer,” Jamal, a 34-year-old health clinic worker, said. “There is no safe haven, there is no place that is not being shelled and besieged, there is no place to go.”In an unprecedented order to civilians in northern Gaza and Gaza City, the Israeli military gave Jamal — and 1.1 million other Palestinians — 24 hours to make up their minds.
